Do You Put God in a Box?
Beyond the Box: Encountering the God Who Cannot Be Contained
For most of my life, I thought I knew God. I attended church regularly, read the Bible cover-to-cover, listened to countless sermons, and prayed often. I learned about His love, authority, majesty, and power. Yet if I’m honest, my understanding of Him was still limited. Without realizing it, I had placed God inside a box of my own making.
That box shattered in 2019, when God showed up in our home. He revealed Himself to me through visions, miracles, revelations, and His unmistakable voice. He came bearing gifts for me and my family, healing my marriage with Tracy and renewing our sense of purpose. He promised blessings not only for us, but for our children and their children for generations. Nothing has been the same since.
During that encounter, I began journaling. It quickly became a daily practice — a way God speaks to me. Often, I return to old entries to be reminded of His faithfulness. One line I wrote has stayed with me: “You can’t put God into a box.”
For ten unforgettable days, God showed me who He is and who I am to Him. He is beyond dimension, space, and time. Every attribute of His nature is larger than human comprehension. His love is relentless, piercing, and boundless — yet even these words fall short. No language on earth can fully describe Him. If He cannot be contained by our words, He certainly cannot be contained by our boxes.
The universe gives us a glimpse of His infinite nature. Scientists estimate the known universe stretches 93 billion light-years — yet what lies beyond cannot be measured. The finite and the infinite stand side by side, mirroring how God is both revealed and unfathomable. He is, quite literally, beyond the beyond.
And yet, many of us still try to manage God. Some build bigger boxes by knowledge, others reinforce their boxes through pride. But God does not fit in a man-made container. He cannot be controlled, reduced, or limited.
My prayer is that you will encounter Him in ways that shatter the small ideas you’ve held about who He is. May He reveal Himself to you in jaw-dropping, life-altering ways, so that you no longer cling to who you thought He was, but embrace who He truly is.
“With God, all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)
